Labour Standards
Under the Labour Standards Code all workers must be paid the same wages for the same work within the workplace.
This means that you cannot be paid less due to your gender, race or any other identity for substantially the same work unless:
The employer uses a seniority or merit pay system to determine pay.
Wages are based on quantity or quality of production.
A factor other than sex distinguishes the work of the employees.
Often there is still a gap between what people in the workplace are being paid. This is why it is a good idea to openly discuss your pay with your coworkers. Your employer cannot punish you or ban you from talking about your pay with your coworkers.
