Workplace Justice Program
The Halifax Workers' Action Centre is committed to mobilizing low-wage and marginalized workers across Nova Scotia to fight for their rights at work. Our Workplace Justice Program is designed to provide workers with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to navigate workplace issues, improve their rights, and advocate for better conditions. Whether that’s in the workplace, or to our governments.
About the Program
The Workplace Justice Program helps workers in Nova Scotia learn about their rights, support one another, and work together to improve workplace laws.
Many workers experience problems at work but don't know where to turn for help. Research shows that most people seek information from friends, family, coworkers, or the internet before contacting a legal clinic or lawyer. This program is designed to meet workers where they are by providing accessible legal information, practical training, and opportunities for collective action.
Whether you're facing a workplace issue, want to learn more about your rights, or are interested in becoming a leader in your workplace or community, the Workplace Justice Program offers ways to get involved.
The program focuses on three key areas:
Worker education and leadership training: Learn about employment rights through workshops and receive training to share legal information and lead workshops in your workplace or community.
Practical resources: Access plain-language guides and educational materials about workers' rights, labour standards, workers' compensation, human rights, and navigating workplace legal issues.
Workplace advocacy and organizing: Connect with other workers to identify workplace challenges, develop solutions, and advocate for stronger workplace protections and progressive labour laws in Nova Scotia.
